Surgical Care Improvement / Surgical Infection Prevention: Genesis Medical Center Hospitals

Surgical Site infections can occur with any surgical procedure. Most of these infections occur at the time of incision when the patient’s own skin bacteria enter the incision. These quality measures show some of the recommended practices known to reduce the risk of developing a surgical site infection. These tables and graphs include six months of data beyond what is available on the CMS Hospital Compare Web site.

A Surgical Care Improvement Team has been formed to ensure that recommended practices have been implemented. We have held education sessions for our clinical staff on methods to reduce the risk of developing post-operative surgical site infections. We have been recognized by the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative as a leader in surgical infection prevention activities.
