Genesis Health System Awards

  • For the fifth consecutive year, Quad Cities health care consumers have chosen Genesis Medical Center as their most preferred hospital in the region. Based on its independent study, National Research Corporation (NRC) has once again recognized Genesis as one of the nation’s top hospitals with the Consumer Choice Award.
  • On July 12, 2006, Genesis Health System was named a Gold Award winner in the annual Aster Awards for excellence in health care marketing. The Genesis direct mail piece, A Home At Journey’s End, won the direct mail category in the health care system group. A Home At Journey’s End was an informational mailing about the new Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House under construction in Bettendorf. The Gold Winner designation means that A Home At Journey’s End scored in the top five percent of entries submitted. Nearly 2,500 entries were submitted for consideration. Judging criteria includes creativity, layout and design, typography, production quality, knowledge transfer and overall excellence.
  • Genesis Health System was reconized for the third consecutive year as one of the nations 100 Most Wired. Genesis was recognized for its investment in technology to achieve high standards for patient safety. The announcement came on July 10, 2006. The 100 Most Wired were selected by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine based on their use of information technology to accomplish key goals, including safety and quality objectives. Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt, Iowa was recognized for the first time as one of the 25 Most Wired small and rural hospitals.
  • Genesis EAP received notification on June 14, 2006 that they were being re-accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA). The COA accreditation process involves a comprehensive examination of the organization’s compliance with the highest of practice standards. The accreditation process incorporates the review of organizational standards including human resources, financial and risk management, and continuous quality development. The COA as well incorporates the compliance with thirty-nine service standards.
  • On June 9, 2006, Genesis Health System was selected as a recipient of the Governor’s Volunteer Award, which is presented each year to Iowans who have contributed countless hours of volunteer service to their schools, communities, or other community-based organizations. Genesis was nominated by Roger Fuerstenberg of the Davenport Community School District for its coordination and participation in the district’s employee health fair. Genesis Occupational Health coordinated the event and Genesis Medical Center staff provided information and educational booths for the event.
  • As of May 22, 2006, Genesis Medical Center, Davenport has successfully completed the categorization and re-verification process to be recertified as a Regional Trauma Care Facility by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Regional Trauma Care Facilities are centers located primarily in urban areas with a compliment of resources to provide surgical and critical care for trauma patients. Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport is the only verified Level II Regional Trauma Care Facility in the Iowa Quad Cities.
  • Barbara Marsden, Director of Workplace Services, Genesis Health System, was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Employee Assistance Society of North America on May 19, 2006.
  • On March 10, 2006, Iowa's 100 Great Nurses program recognized three Genesis nurses for their exceptional contributions to patients, colleagues and the profession. Those that recieved the prestigious designation for 2006 are: Maureen Carty, MSN, RN, OCN, Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Genesis Medical Center, Davenport; Karen LeMaster, MS, RN, CNA, Med/Surg Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Genesis Medical Center, Davenport; and Anne Lewis, MA, RN, CNRN, Neuroscience Clinical Nurse Specialist, Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.
  • Genesis Medical Center, Davenport was designated a UnitedHealth PremiumSM cardiac specialty center on November 25, 2005. This reflects the national recognition of the cardiac care Genesis provides. The UnitedHealth Premium cardiac specialty centers program identifies hospitals nationwide that are leaders in providing cardiac care. Select hospitals in the UnitedHealthcare network are invited to apply for designation.
  • Genesis Medical Center, Davenport is the first and only hospital in the Quad Cities to achieve Magnet Recognition, which recognizes hospitals demonstrating the highest standard of nursing care. Magnet designation is awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), an arm of the American Nurses Association. Genesis becomes just the fourth in Iowa, to be awarded Magnet status. Of the roughly 6,000 hospitals in the United States, less than 3 percent have achieved Magnet Recognition.
  • For the fourth consecutive year, Quad Cities health care consumers have chosen Genesis Medical Center as their most preferred hospital in the region. Based on its independent study, National Research Corporation (NRC) has once again recognized Genesis as one of the nation’s top hospitals with the Consumer Choice Award. Genesis has swept the NRC Consumer Choice Awards in the four years the market area has only been included in the study.
  • The WellPower Program of Genesis Health System was recognized on September 8, 2005, by Wellness Councils of America as a national leader in employee wellness. The Genesis WellPower Program is an incentive plan for all employees and spouses. The year-long program introduces employees and spouses to health habits to improve their life. The program focuses on fitness, nutrition, education, mental health, spiritual health and health status improvement through participation in programs available at Genesis.
  • The investment of Genesis Health System in technology has also been an investment in quality and safety of patient care. The correlation between new technology and quality patient care has earned Genesis recognition as one of the nation’s 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems for the second consecutive year. The award was annouced on July 12, 2005.
  • Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus was re-accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) on May 27, 2005. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations has maintained performance-based standards and evaluated the quality and safety of health care organizations since 1951. JCAHO accredits and certifies more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs.
  • The Healthcare Advertising Awards and the Aster Awards recognized Genesis Health System as one of the best in the country for its commitment to the community and achievements in medical marketing on May 17, 2005. The Healthcare Advertising Merit awards were received for @genesis, an internal, electronic publication for employees and volunteers of the health system; and the 30-second Genesis ...Never Settle television commercial about Genesis cancer care. The commercial highlights the “Never Settle" message of the health system. Genesis was also honored with two Aster Awards. The Aster Awards provide national-level recognition for health care organizations and advertising agencies that demonstrate excellence in medical marketing.
  • Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt was recertified as a Community Trauma Care Facility (Level 4) by the Iowa Department of Public Health on March 17, 2005. The designation demonstrates that the DeWitt hospital has the resources to provide initial stabilization for all trauma patients, and prepare them for transfer to another hospital when appropriate.
  • The Center for Digestive Health, a joint venture between Gastroenterology Associates P.C. and Genesis Medical Center, received accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care on February 25, 2005. The accreditation status means the Center for Digestive Health has passed a series of nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by the Accreditation Association. More than 2000 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States are accredited by the AAAHC.
  • The American Hospital Association (AHA) honored Genesis Health System and Trinity Regional Health System with the 2004 NOVA Award for their collaborative impact on community health. The NOVA Award is one of the highest honors given by the American Hospital Association, with only five presented throughout the nation in 2004.
  • Hospitals & Health Networks named Genesis as one of the nation's top 100 Most Wired hospitals on July 20, 2004. This achievement recognizes Genesis' leadership in establishing electronic medical records (EMR) that improve patient safety and quality of care. These records make patient information and history more readily accessible and decrease the amount of time hospital caregivers spend completing paperwork.
  • The American Hospital Association, Healthcare Advertising Awards and the Aster Awards have recognized Genesis Health System as one of the best in the country for its commitment to the community and achievements in medical marketing.
