Why Am I Taking It?
Aredia is used to decrease the complications of some kinds of cancer which have spread to the bones. It is also used to treat a high level of calcium in the blood that can be caused from some kinds of cancers. Aredia is not a chemotherapy drug. It is often used in patients who are also receiving chemotherapy treatments for cancer.
What Side Effects May Occur?
You may experience some, all, or none of those listed. Most side effects do not last long. Tell the doctor or nurse about any that you notice. The information here does not include all possible side effects; others may occur. Please report any problems to your doctor. Some of the side effects that may seem to be from Aredia may actually be from the cancer itself or the other cancer therapies you are receiving.
Skin Changes
Changes in Blood Electrolytes and Blood Cells

A drop in blood cell counts including white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets may occur.

Tell your doctor about any signs of bleeding or infection. Avoid situations where you might be exposed to people with infections.

Blood levels of calcium, potassium, phosphate or magnesium may drop during treatment. If you are being treated for high blood calcium levels, the goal of treatment is to reduce the calcium, but it can drop too low.

Your blood will be drawn often to check your blood counts and electrolytes. You may be placed on replacement medications for electrolytes. Your treatment with Aredia may be modified by your doctor if necessary to correct the imbalances. It is very important to keep your appointments for your labs so that this can be watched closely.

Bone, muscle and joint pains or aches may occur. Your doctor will prescribe medications to help with this. Be sure to let your doctor or nurse know if pain in your bones becomes worse.

You may also feel very fatigued.
