How Is It Given?

Why Am I Taking It?
Lomustine is an anti-cancer drug that stops cell growth and division. This drug is used to treat brain cancers, lymphomas, melanoma, spinal, and lung cancers.
What Side Effects May Occur?
You may experience some, all, or none of those listed. Most side effects do not last long. Tell the doctor or nurse about any that you notice. The information here does not include all possible side effects; others may occur. Please report any problems to your doctor.
Low Blood Counts

A drop in blood cell counts, especially white blood cells and platelets, occurs within 4-6 weeks after treatment.

Tell your doctor about any signs of infection or bleeding.

Avoid situations where you may be exposed to people with infections.

Your blood will be sampled regularly to check your blood counts.
Nausea, Vomiting, Appetite Loss

May be reduced by taking this drug at bedtime on an empty stomach.

Taking an anti-nausea drug one half hour before Lomustine may be helpful.

Drugs can be ordered to control these symptoms if they become severe.

Generally lasts less than 24 hours.
Hair loss
Special Notes

Changes in your menstrual cycle or sperm count may occur. Discuss birth control measures with your doctor as it is not advisable to conceive or to father children while taking this drug.

May cause lung damage

May temporarily affect liver function. Call your doctor for severe abdominal pain or if your eyes and skin appear yellow.

Take on an empty stomach 3-4 hours before meals

May be taken at bedtime.
