GMC DeWitt Breaks Record For Surgical Services In A Single Month
DeWitt, IA - Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt had its highest surgical volume for a single month in the history of the hospital in August with 98 procedures.
The past high for a single month was 82 in June 2004.
“The high volume is a reflection of the confidence patients have in the surgical services of our hospital. Those patients aren’t only coming from DeWitt, but also Eldridge, Maquoketa and Clinton,’’ said Jeff Cooper, CEO of Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt. “We are pleased to be able to provide compassionate, quality surgical services to our patients.’’
Surgical procedures available at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt include cataract surgery from Lee Birchansky, M.D., of Cedar Rapids and Navaneet Borisuth, M.D., of the Virdi Eye Clinic, Rock Island; general surgery from Hans Zinnecker of Davenport Surgical Group, Ricky Maddox, M.D., of Clinton and James Olney, M.D.; orthopedic procedures from Abdulla Foad, M.D., and Matt Lindaman, M.D., Orthopaedic and Rheumatology Associates, Davenport; podiatry from Brent Zastrow, D.P.M., of DeWitt and endoscopy from Thomas Snyder, D.O., of DeWitt.
Four registered nurses and two technicians are also part of the surgical team at the DeWitt hospital.
Chris and Ella Gonnsen live in rural Clinton County. They have experience with most of the surgical procedures available at the DeWitt hospital. Ella had cataract surgery in August. Chris had a foot procedure recently.
“We think it’s a great hospital,’’ Chris said. “The staff is very good and it is so handy for us. If we need blood work or something like that, we can get to the hospital with a short drive.
“Ella was in the hospital for inpatient rehabilitation after hip surgery in 2000 and it was very convenient for me to go and be with her every day. If we could have all of our surgeries at DeWitt, we would.’’
DeWitt-area patients like the Gonnsens can have surgery at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, but can take advantage of pre-admission and follow-up services at the DeWitt hospital.
