Hospice House Showcased in Architectural Magazine
BETTENDORF, IOWA - The beautiful design of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf and Gere/Dismer Architects, LLC have earned recognition in the March issue of the national magazine “Design for Senior Environments 2007.”
The Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House opened Nov. 7, 2006 as the Quad Cities’ first freestanding hospice house. The house, located at 2546 Tech Drive, is operated by Genesis VNA and Hospice.
“The intent of a hospice facility is to provide care and comfort in the final days of one’s life,” an article in the magazine read. “Extraordinary measures were taken to ensure that each patient and visitor was accorded the necessary amenities. Upon entering the house, patients get a sense that they are indeed home.”
From the wood floors, beautiful interior furnishings and original artwork to spa rooms, lots of natural light and patient rooms that open onto private patios with views to the lush grounds, the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House looks more like a “pleasant, residentially scaled village” than a hospice, the magazine said.
