Genesis Hair-Cutting Event Will Benefit Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- A very personal gift can make a big difference in the lives of women with cancer.
By donating your hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign on Aug. 12 at the Genesis Cancer Care Institute, you will be helping provide real-hair wigs to women all over the country who have lost their hair during cancer treatments.
The public is invited to join Genesis Health System employees in donating their hair to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths Campaign. The event will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in front of the Genesis Cancer Care Institute at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park.
Stylists from the Regis Hair Salon will be available to cut the donated hair. Every person who donates will receive a "Great Savings" card from Regis. People who donate can then follow up with discounted appointments the same day to have their hair styled or colored.
In order to make the most beautiful, realistic and durable wigs, donated hair must meet these requirements:
- Donated hair must be a minimum of 8 inches long (measure hair from just above the elastic band of the ponytail to the ends).
- Wavy/curly hair texture is fine—you may straighten hair to measure.
- Hair should be freshly washed and completely dry, without any styling products.
- Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.
- Hair may not be more than 5 percent gray.
Pantene teamed up with The Entertainment Industry Foundation and the American Cancer Society to provide free, real-hair wigs to women in the United States and Canada who are suffering hair loss as a result of cancer treatment.
The goal of the campaign is to collect one million inches of hair to be made into wigs. Currently, 500,000 inches of hair have been donated. That is enough hair for about 10,000 wigs.
