Genesis Gala Supports NICU, Nursing Scholarships

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- By turning back the clock for the evening, everyone who attends the Genesis Foundation Gala will be helping support the vital needs of Genesis Medical Center patients in the future.

The Gala will be held on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the RiverCenter's Mississippi Hall, Davenport.

Community support of the Gala will help Genesis ensure that the highest quality of care will continue to be available to all patients, from infants who need the specialized care of the Genesis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, to heart patients who need the specialized, skilled care of a team of health professionals.

This year's Gala will feature a "Casino Royale'' theme reminiscent of a 1960s-era casino.  Guests will be able to test their luck with the traditional casino games.  With their "winnings,'' guests will be able to participate in a raffle for a chance to win some great gift items and packages.

There will also be live and silent auctions.  Items available for auctions this year include a $14,560 TMT Watercraft Vbow, the toughest aluminum jon boat on the market, donated by TMT Manufacturing; two spots in the 2008 Lexus Champions for Charity National Golf Championship at Pebble Beach, donated by Lujack Lexus of the Quad Cities; two second-row tickets (adjacent to third base) to a New York Yankees game and a travel voucher toward travel and hotel expenses, donated by Nancy and Howard Cornfield and Quad City Bank & Trust; and a $5,000 cherry wood poker table with matching cherry and leather chairs, donated by John and Nancy Danico, Xenotronics.

Ed Franks will present his tribute show, The Sinatra Tradition, to follow the theme of the night.  There will also be dancing following the auctions.

Proceeds from the Gala will help provide equipment needed as the Genesis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit expands and to provide scholarships for present and future Genesis nurses.

The expanding Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will need Isolettes, bedside cardiac monitors and baby warmers.

More than $50,000 will be awarded in May of this year to students who are enrolled in baccalaureate nursing programs and to present Genesis nurses who are completing their BSN or MSN degrees.
