Genesis Hosts Poetry Exhibit With Focus On Mental Health Awareness

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The poetry of Quad Cities mental health activist Lance Baker will be featured with a reception hosted by the Quad Cities chapter of the National Alliance On Mental Health (NAMI) on Friday, April 4.

The NAMI reception will held from 4-6:30 p.m. in the atrium of Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park.  The poetry exhibit is scheduled to be on display in the atrium for at least six months.

Baker has worked for many years to break down the stigma and discrimination shown toward individuals living with mental illness.  He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in October 2000.  Baker speaks to audiences around the Midwest about how he overcame his struggle with mental illness.

Baker said the poetry was written to raise awareness and create discussion about mental health issues.  A grant from the Vera French Foundation and professional framing provided by Marsh & Field Gallery of Davenport are supporting the project.
