As you explore your residency training options, we welcome you to the Genesis Quad Cities Family Medicine Residency Program. Selecting a residency program that is right for you is one of the most important decisions you will make in your career. I will highlight some of the special qualities of our program that makes us an outstanding choice and separates us from the other programs.
First and foremost, we have a long tradition in the training of family physicians since 1975. This heritage persists today, as we are one of the largest primary care providers in the area. We are located in eastern Iowa on the beautiful Mississippi River, just 2 hours east of Des Moines and 2 1/2 hours west of Chicago.
Unopposed ResidencyOur residency program is unopposed, allowing our residents to work closely with community attendings, perform surgical procedures without competition from other learners, and gain an understanding of the practice of medicine outside of the residency. We have an apprenticeship model of residency training. This is different from most resident training and consists of more 1:1 time with your preceptors. Our faculty teach you with a hands on, interactive teaching style. It emphasizes independence in developing your personal practice style while still providing reassuring backup.

Our residents have daily half-day clinics from Day 1, allowing you to build a practice within the residency by providing continuity of care to your personal patients. As we feel it is important to follow all aspects of patient care, which might be lost on a ward service, residents follow their own obstetrical, nursing home, and hospital patients. In addition, we are also one of the main consultants to many of our community attendings, which further reflects the strong support from the medical community. Our clinic offers a number of services and our residents perform a wide range of office procedures under the supervision of family medicine faculty.
In order to model real-life practice experience, residents use pagers and cell phones to take call from their homes.
Our residents are involved in the business aspects of patient care and they are an integral part of the monthly practice management, which allows residents to learn all aspects of running an office. Our graduates have been very successful in obtaining employment in competitive practices in both private and academic environments.
I would like to personally invite you to come and visit our program. We aspire to be one of the best programs in the nation, offering innovative and new ideas to continue to expand and improve how we teach residents to become excellent physicians and well-balanced individuals.
Your interest in our program is greatly appreciated. As we strive to provide helpful information to interested applicants, we look forward to your feedback about our website and our program.
