DAISY Award Winner - January 2022
Congratulations to our January DAISY Award Winner Matthew Holdgrafer, R.N.
Matt is a registered nurse in our Emergency Department at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus.
Here's what Matthew's nominator had to say about him:
"A couple weeks ago my daughter had a seizure out of nowhere. She wasn't feeling well that morning so she stayed home with her Dad while I went to work in the East ICU. Never having had a seizure before, my husband brought her in to the ED and I met them down there. She was still post ictal and wet with urine and my husband was silently panicking. I was scared, too, of course.
Matt was our nurse, and had such a calm demeanor that he made everything seem like it would be okay. I also am a nurse so I was anticipating all of the testing and possible interventions. I was so nervous when he came to put in an IV that he would have to poke her multiple times and she would cry. Nope. He came in, poked once, got it quickly and smoothly. She hardly cried at all. I was extremely impressed.
I happened to know that that was a crazier than usual day in the ED. But Matt never seemed to show that stress. He was calm, professional, and even made time to bring my daughter an ice bucket with washcloths for her head and a popsicle. He is a really great nurse and I want to say thank you so much for taking care of not only my daughter but of us as well."
Great job, Matthew!
