Genesis Sports Medicine Will Assist With Safety Plan For Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Tournament
DAVENPORT, Iowa – March 1, 2021 -– Genesis Sports Medicine will be part of a wide-ranging safety plan to host the first sports event in a year at TaxSlayer Center.
Hoops In The Heartland, The Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, will be played March 11-14, one year after the same event was canceled hours before the opening game last March 12 because of the emergence of COVID-19.
In quick succession, virtually all entertainment and sports events went dark. TaxSlayer Center also went dark. The tournament coming up will be the first event held in the main arena since the canceled tournament last March.
Plans for hosting the tournament this week include COVID-19 testing. Genesis will test all players, coaches, tournament staff and venue staff each day.
“This is the first step in getting back to normal life and we need to make sure we do it right,’’ said Scott Mullen, executive director of TaxSlayer Center. “We are extremely excited to have activity in the building after such a long time.’’
Jose Armendariz, M.D., CAQSM, medical director of Genesis Sports Medicine, said Genesis is looking forward to playing a role in the return of events to TaxSlayer Center.
Genesis COVID-19 Testing Part Of TaxSlayer Center Reopening Plan
“TaxSlayer Center is an entertainment and sports destination in our region,’’ Dr. Armendariz said. “Arena management have a plan in place to safely host events again. The plan may serve as a guide to other venues hoping to reopen soon.
“This event aligns well with our current services from Genesis Sports Medicine. We look forward to a safe event for everyone.’’
The safe re-opening plan of TaxSlayer Center includes:
- Mandatory masks for all center staff and spectators, except when consuming food or beverages in their designated seat
- Concession sales will be cashless
- Mobile concession ordering will be available
- Pre-packaged “Grab and Go’’ concessions
- Spectator numbers restricted, dependent on State of Illinois guidelines
- Seating pods of 2-4 spectators
- Frequent disinfecting of all public areas
TaxSlayer Center has earned national recognition for its re-opening safety plan. The Center was one of the first venues nationally to earn Global Biorisk Advisory Council ® (GBAC) STAR™accreditation for implementing stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention.
