Game 1: A Real Record Breaker

In a game that was never in doubt, and that required a running clock throughout the fourth quarter the Davenport West Falcons defeated the Alleman Pioneers in the most lopsided game in Shootout history by a score of 94-24. The 94 points scored by West is shatters the previous Genesis Shootout record of most points by a team is a single game (Davenport Central, 79, 2018). 24 points is the lowest score for a team in a single Shootout session.

The Falcons were led by leading scorer Landon Winston who score 18 points and had four steals.in nearly 20 minutes of play. Jackson Praet was the leading scorer for Alleman with nine points and three assists.

The win gives Iowa a 1-0 advantage in the 2021 Genesis Shootout.

New Alleman coach Larry Oronzio Jr. inherits an 0-9 team without the top 3 scorers from last spring's shortened season. The only player returning with varsity points is college baseball prospect Jackson Praet. The only other senior in this season's top 6 players is Noah Brinkman, among the many multi-sport Pioneers. Two sophomores are in the regular rotation, including All-Western Big 6 Conference soccer player Ryan Schmitt. ... Rock Island great David Robinson is rebuilding West around a pair of returning senior starters -- high scoring NaZion Caruthers and laser quick Jermaine Gardner, whom the veteran coach and former pro considers the best point guard in the area this season. Also giving the height-challenged Falcons a boost is the return of junior Landon Winston from his second ACL tear. Freshman Cailen Shadrick and sophomore Jermilyn Gardner also are pointing to a bright future already seeing varsity minutes off the bench. ... West is only 4-22 in event history, but has won its last three, including 2019 vs. the Pioneers (74-59).
