In another rematch from the 2022 Shootout, a couple of old Davenport coaching rivals face off. Former Central player and coach Ryan Hill makes his Shootout debut for Geneseo against former North player and current coach Marquez Davis. Both are among the Shootout players becoming head coaches at the event. They split four MAC meetings coaching against each other the last two seasons. Davis' Wildcats start four transfers, including two honorable mention all-conference performers -- senior Tsuriad Moore (Central) and junior DeAndre Smith (Clinton). The other transfers starting are senior Ollie Braun (Durant) and junior Tenerick Brady (another ex-Central player squaring off with his former coach). North's holdover is hard to handle, too -- steadily improving 6-5 senior forward Chris Moss. Hill's Leafs return four regulars, including last season's leading scorer, sophomore shooter Landon Nordstrom. Hill also is especially high on physical ball-handler Kruiz Ludwig (a college baseball prospect) and junior Owen Parker ("lengthy and learning to play inside and out," Hill said). The most familiar Geneseo name comes off the bench, though. Kwin VanKerrebroeck is the son of Leafs great, former Augustana player and current Geneseo assistant Ky VanKerrebrock. Kwin's grandfather Bob also coached the Lady Leafs to 129 victories in eight seasons -- highlighted by a fourth-place state finish in 1986-87 -- before becoming the top assistant to current Iowa coach Lisa Bluder locally at St. Ambrose.
