Game Summary

A team that leads the stat sheet in field goal percentage, three point field goal percentage, and free throw percentage will win most basketball games, however that was not the case at the Genesis Shootout for the Bettendorf Bulldogs.

Galesburg held the lead for 28 minutes in a 60-56 defeat of the Bulldogs. An eight point scoring run in the fourth quarter was the difference for the Silver Streaks. The leading scorer for Galesburg is forward Koen Derry, He scored 22 points.

Game Preview by Steve Tappa, Shootout Historian

In the "Year of the Returning Hero," Galesburg's Chad Thompson is the third Shootout player-turned-head coach in as many games, and the eighth overall in event history. Thompson's alma mater boasts a senior-dominated roster led by third year starting twin guards Alex and Dre Egipciaco -- the latter an all-conference performer in hoops in 2019. The Streaks have three other 3-year varsity players in seniors Jeremiah Babers and 6-foot-6 Koen Derry, plus junior Easton Steck. Derry was especially impressive on the AAU summer circuit. The Egipciaco's and the 6-5 twin tandem of Aaron and Nolan Carl were All-Big 6 in football. Steck was all-conference in baseball. Another senior, 6-5 Carl Dortch, adds to a lengthy lineup. ... Bettendorf coach Curtis Clark boasts perhaps the best sophomore in the area in 6-6 leading scorer Caden Wilkins, who so far averages 22 points per game after starting some varsity games last season. Five other current contributors combined on 21 varsity starts last season for the Bulldogs -- seniors Jackson Gross and Landon Butler, and juniors Jaden Tyler, Cameron Figgs and Spencer Del Vecchio. ... DYK: This is the fourth time in the past six Shootouts these schools have met. Galesburg has beaten Bettendorf each of the last two times (2017 and '19) to lead the Shootout series 3-2 with the event co-founder.
