Game Summary
In a historic showdown at Augustana College Carver Center, the Pleasant Valley Spartans clashed with the Rock Island Rocks in a game that will be etched in the annals of the Genesis Shootout. The crowd was treated to a thrilling, triple-overtime spectacle, only the second time such drama unfolded in the history of the tournament.
The Rock Island Rocks, led by the dynamic trio of Dezmund Jackson, KJ Lamonte, and Larry Olivier Jr., showcased resilience and determination throughout the marathon game. Lamonte's buzzer-beating heroics at the end of the first overtime, sinking a thrilling 3-pointer from the top of the key, sent the crowd into a frenzy and propelled the game into double overtime.
The intensity reached new heights with each overtime period, as both teams refused to back down. Jackson's explosive performance, accumulating 20 points, coupled with Lamonte's clutch plays, proved pivotal for Rock Island.
On the other side, the Pleasant Valley Spartans, led by Coy Kipper's remarkable 20-point effort, fought tooth and nail. The Spartans' David Gorsline and Caden Rubel contributed significantly, adding 15 and 12 points, respectively, to the scoreboard.
The rebound battle was fierce, with Max Muszalski securing a commanding 9 rebounds for Pleasant Valley, while Larry Olivier Jr. led the Rocks with 5 crucial boards.
In a game filled with lead changes and ties, the climax came in the third overtime, with Kipper's three-pointer giving Pleasant Valley a narrow lead that proved to be the decisive moment.

Game Preview by Steve Tappa, Shootout Historian
Fighters make the fight, so the contrasting styles of offensively patient and defensively determined PV should make for a doozy of a dance with speedy, swarming Rocky's running and gunning crew. Longtime Spartans coach Steve Hillman returns four senior starters from last season's Iowa Class 4A semifinalists -- Coy Kipper, David Gorsline and All-MAC honorable mention selections Caden Rubel and Max Muszalski. None are considered big-time college prospects. But what PV lacks in flash is made up with teamwork and consistency, and 9 of the last 11 seasons featuring 15 or more wins. The worst loss suffered by the previous season's Spartans was 11 points in the marquee matchup at the Shootout against eventual Illinois Class 4A Moline and its two future Iowa Hawkeyes. On the flip side, Rocky has been as good as anyone locally for decades, playing in the finale 12 times since joining the Shootout in 1997. Rocks coach Marc Polite, one of the first Shootout stars at UT, also returns four senior regulars from last season's 20-win regional titlist. Included is high-scoring All-Big 6 guard KJ Lamonte, who is currently receiving strong Division-2 recruiting interest. Dez Jackson is among the others making a solid bid to play at the D-2 or high D-3 level. However, a promising newcomer might pass them all once recruiters discover starting sophomore point guard Lawson Zulu, an All-Big 6 soccer midfielder in the fall who has never played AAU basketball because of his commitments on the pitch.
