Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

The use of your own body’s platelet-rich plasma to treat an injury

PRP therapy uses the body’s own natural properties to help heal an injury. It essentially jump starts the healing process by taking a concentration of platelets and growth factors from your blood to create a targeted injection within the afflicted area.

How does it work?

We draw a small amount of your own blood
That blood is put through a spinning process via the Arthrex Angel™ System that separates the platelets and other beneficial growth factors from the blood. This takes about 30 minutes to complete.
Your physician then administers the processed blood via an ultrasound-guided injection into the area associated with your pain or discomfort.

What areas of the body does PRP treat?

With the Arthrex Angel™ System, PRP can be effective in relieving pain or discomfort in the following areas:

Does insurance cover PRP?

Many insurance companies do not cover PRP at this time. However, you are encouraged to contact your insurance company to see if they will provide coverage.

Do I need physical therapy after PRP?

Physical therapy is extremely beneficial after PRP therapy. Your physician’s office will help schedule a physical therapy visit at your convenience.

Your physical therapist will primarily focus on strengthening your extremity and improving range of motion. They will also work with you using neuromuscular control exercises to improve both stability and control. Your MercyOne Genesis therapist will guide you through this protocol.
