Pre Admission Testing
In Person Testing
If you are in need of pre-procedural lab work and testing, you will receive a call to schedule an appointment with a pre-admission nurse. Please allow 1-2 hours for the tests and procedural intake assessment. Bring the following information to this appointment:
- Photo ID and insurance cards
- Detailed list of medications
- List of previous procedures and medical history, including allergies and specific reactions
Phone Assessment
If you are having testing done at another facility or your procedure does not require pre-procedural testing at What to Expect When You Are Having Surgery MercyOne Genesis, a pre-admission nurse will call and conduct a phone assessment reviewing your health history information a day or two prior to your procedure. Please allow 20 minutes for the interview. Have the following prepared for your interview:
- Detailed medication list
- List of previous procedures and medical history
- List of allergies and specific reactions
Procedure Time Confirmation
You will receive an appointment reminder via text or email 24 hours in advance of your procedure, with your arrival time. Your arrival time could change until 5 pm the night before your procedure. If your arrival time has changed from your previous appointment reminder, you will receive a text or email between 5pm and 7pm the night before your procedure with your final arrival time.
Your safety is our ultimate goal at MercyOne Genesis. Pre-admission services is the best way to get you prepared for your procedure and have a positive outcome.

Outpatient Care Center
Pre Procedure instructions
- Personal Care: Wash your hair and body. Avoid hair spray and hair products, lotion, powder, makeup, and deodorant. Please remove nail polish prior to day of procedure.
- Transportation: Arrange for transportation to and from hospital. Any patient receiving anesthesia must have a ride home to discharge. A legal guardian must accompany patients under 18 years of age.
- Let your doctor’s office know if you become ill within three days prior to your procedure.
- Arrival and Check In: Arrive at your scheduled arrival time. Check in is at the Main Entrance. Wheelchairs are available inside. You can park in the South Parking Ramp or in front of the Main Entrance.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Please bring with you:
- Medication and allergy list
- Rescue Inhalers and CPAP or BiPAP machine
- Photo ID, Living Will, Power of Attorney, and insurance card
- Post Procedure Equipment: crutches, walker, braces, support bra, ice machine, etc.
- Please remove all piercings, and leave jewelry and valuables at home.
- Medications: Stop taking medications as directed by your physician. Please verify if you need to hold your blood thinners (such as Coumadin, Plavix, Aspirin) diabetes medication (metformin, insulin), herbal medications, Blood pressure medications, or NSAIDs prior to your procedure. This could cause a delay or cancellation of your procedure.
- Contact your insurance provider to confirm Anesthesia and Analgesia, PC are preferred providers in your plan.
- Pre-Registration: You are encouraged to pre-register prior to your procedure. You will be sent a link via text/email to input your registration information prior to your procedure. For an estimated out of pocket expense or payment options call 563-421-2223. If you have a co-pay or deductible, it may be collected at the time of admission.
Day of Procedure
- You may take your morning medications with a small sip of water. Please do not consume anything else by mouth for 8 hours prior to your procedure. This includes food, water, coffee, gum, candy, mints, and chewing tobacco. This could cause a delay or cancellation of your procedure.
- Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your procedure. This will help keep your blood pressure regulated, and your IV start easier.
- Please instruct all visitors to stay in your procedural room or the waiting room until updated by your physician. Please visit our website at www.genesishealth.com for our most current visitor guidelines.
- Procedural Updates: During the check-in process, your visitor will be asked to provide a phone number for text message updates regarding your procedure throughout your stay with us.
- After your procedure, you may go to the Post Anesthesia Recovery Room (PACU). Recovery room time will vary based on your level of sedation, and your oxygen and pain levels.
