BENEFITS OF NON-SURGICAL WEIGHT LOSS
Benefits of medical weight loss go far beyond better fitting clothes. It includes lowering of blood sugars, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, pain and less medication use. Non-surgical weight loss services may be ideal if:
- You prefer to lose weight without or do not qualify for bariatric surgery, or are regaining weight post bariatric surgery.
- You are worried about high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or sleep apnea.
- You are asked to lose weight prior to a surgical procedure (knee, hernia, etc.), or improve fertility
You have tried weight loss on your own without sustained success
FOUR PILLARS OF NON-SURGICAL WEIGHT LOSS
- Nutrition: Registered dietitians provide assessment and education to help with recognizing ideal food choices, eating schedule and habits, emotional eating and other personal barriers to weight loss. Diet plans are individualized using a variety of dietary patterns such as low calorie, low carbohydrate - adequate protein, dash, Mediterranean, intermittent fasting, vegetarian, or meal replacement. Dietitians assist with long-term lifestyle change, rather than temporary changes as used in a diet.
- Behavior: Self-monitoring, breaking high-risk behaviors, changing food-related thought processes, impulse control, and development of long-term coping skills.
- Physical Activity: Use of physical therapy to improve fitness, flexibility and strength.
- Medication: Prescribed if approved by the physician per FDA safety criteria.
- FDA approved weight loss medications including Phentermine, Qsymia, Contrave, Saxenda and Wegovy. (Prescribed per FDA criteria only)
- Reduce weight-promoting medications such as insulin
- Introduce weight friendly medications such as Metformin, Welbutrin, Ozempic and Mounjaro.
* Studies show that medicines are most effective when also combined with proper diet, mindful eating, and exercise.
