Basic Training for New Dads is a unique program that brings "rookie" fathers-to-be together with "veteran" dads. The veterans also share their babies, when available, with the rookies for hands-on training, and demonstrate how to hold, comfort, diaper, swaddle, relieve gas/colic and play with an infant. The two and one half hour program is focused, humorous and informational.
The Child Abuse Council is committed to ensuring all local families get the support they deserve and proudly sponsors this community course.
Focus on These 3 Main Areas
- The time leading up to the birth - getting you and your house in order (packing your bag, making the house safe, getting you ready for what is about to happen).
- The actual physical birth / time at the hospital - from a guys perspective, what happens, what emotions do you feel, things to be prepared for.
- Leaving the hospital, coming home, forming that parenting team, bonding with your baby (how to change, swaddle, burp, etc.).
In all 3 of these time-frames, we stress the importance of safety, communication and building the strongest parenting team with your significant other.
