Dr. Shammas has been heavily involved in the research and development of new techniques and procedures and has gained numerous awards and recognition for such. Dr Shammas is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. He is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians and the Society of Cardiac Angiography.

Dr. Shammas has published over 100 manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters and presented at national and international meetings. He has served as a reviewer and on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals. He has participated in over 60 multicenter clinical trials and, in 1997, established the coronary and peripheral vascular research program at the Genesis Medical Center. Dr. Shammas has won several research and teaching awards including the Preceptor Teacher of the Year Award (2002) by the family practice residents at the Genesis Family Residency Training program. Dr. Shammas is the founder and president of the Midwest Cardiovascular Research Foundation.

Dr. Shammas is licensed in both Iowa and Illinois and is available for outpatient consultations and follow up visits.
