DeWitt’s two primary care clinics now designated Rural Health Clinics
DEWITT, Iowa, March 8, 2024 – DeWitt’s two primary care clinics – MercyOne DeWitt Family Medicine and Genesis Health Group, DeWitt – are now designated as Rural Health Clinics (RHC’s) and part of Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.
Recently, MercyOne DeWitt Family Medicine officially became a certified RHC, joining Genesis Health Group, DeWitt which achieved the designation in July.
The federal RHC program creates a safety net to ensure access to health care for rural communities. The designation will bring both clinics enhanced government reimbursement for providing Medicare and Medicaid services, in addition to other resources and grant programs, to help increase access to patients.
Genesis joined MercyOne, a statewide Iowa health system, on March 1, 2023.
“We get questions about our two clinics across the street from one another – both now part of Genesis and MercyOne,” said Ted Rogalski, Administrator of Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt. “What’s important to know is Genesis and MercyOne are committed to rural health care and keeping health care services and providers in DeWitt. Both clinics will now be managed as one team. Having two RHCs is exciting news for our community because the designation will strengthen rural health care and improve the financial health of rural clinics.”
As a requirement to become a RHC, both clinics became a department of the local community hospital -- Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.
“We are bringing all of our providers together to deliver comprehensive primary care, pharmacy services and hospital services as one organization for our rural communities in the DeWitt area,” Rogalski said.
In December, Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt became the new owner of Scott’s Thrifty White Drug in DeWitt, continuing a downtown presence that began when Scott Drug opened in 1962. The pharmacy’s new name is Scott Drug, affiliated with Genesis Health System.
Pharmacy is an important component of health care services offered in DeWitt. These services include a critical access hospital, comprehensive outpatient services, family medicine, physical therapy clinics and senior living at Fieldstone in DeWitt in partnership with WesleyLife.
