About Jim Victor
Jim was a passionate advocate for making ours the healthiest region in the nation. A tireless volunteer and role model for healthy living, he inspired staff and his fellow Board members by giving generously of his time, talent and treasure. Jim was a driving force for change and made it his quest to engage philanthropists and several non-profit partners in collaborative population health initiatives.
He served on the Genesis Foundation Board of Directors, and a predecessor organization, the Mercy Foundation. After three decades, many volunteers would have called that “a good run” and made a well-deserved exit, but not Jim. Instead, he took on a new leadership role within Genesis Health System in 2013 to help create and lead Genesis Philanthropy.
Jim was a tireless, life-long learner, eager to stay current in the complexities of the healthcare industry. Above all, he was a force for positive change in our community. It was the changing landscape in healthcare that inspired Jim and a handful of other community leaders to create Genesis Philanthropy.
Jim embraced the Genesis vision and saw great potential for philanthropy in shaping programs and services designed to keep people well. He became the first Chair of the Genesis Philanthropy Board of Directors while maintaining an active role on the Genesis Foundation Board of Directors and its Finance and Investment Committee. Jim considered his dual membership important. He was a bridge between the two foundations, sharing information and encouraging both boards to engage more fully in the population health initiatives funded by Genesis Philanthropy.
Jim was patient, humble and generous. He was a faithful contributor to both the Genesis Foundation. He was a member of the President’s Circle of Care and the Genesis Legacy Society.
Jim was a key volunteer in both the campaign to establish the Jane Folwell Heart of Mercy Fund for charity care, and the campaign to build the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Each of these signature projects continue to serve the needs of our community and best demonstrate our Genesis mission of providing compassionate, quality health services to all those in need.
